PRENATAL
DFW Midwife Collective believes in supporting women in all aspects of their pregnancy and birth. Prenatally we will build a trusting relationship with each other, where we will guide you through the physiological process of pregnancy and birth. In turn, you will educate us on your desires for your pregnancy and birth. Combined, this will best help us serve you during this journey we are on together. We want to ensure that we are helping families experience birth with evidence-based care and informed consent in all aspects of your care.

  • Initial appointment 28 weeks gestation: monthly appointments in office
  • 28 weeks 36 weeks: bi-monthly appointments in office
  • 36 week home visit and birth planning with entire birth team
  • 37 weeks to birth of your baby: weekly appointments in office

BIRTH

DFW Midwife Collective feels your intimate birth space is sacred and should be treated with care and respect. We enter every birthing environment prepared for all possibilities, with a calm and loving presence. Whether you choose to birth in your home or one of our partnering birth centers, we will guide you throughout your labor using our knowledge and skills to promote optimal positioning and relaxation techniques. We believe that birth is something to be experienced, and if you allow it, birth can change your life.

  • Full clinical assessment of maternal and fetal health throughout the labor and birthing process
  • We welcome family involvement, including children
  • Labor support and comfort techniques including positional guidance, massage, hydrotherapy, and use of essential oils and herbal remedies
  • Perineal evaluation and use of numbing agents combined with suturing if repairs are indicated
  • We respect the Golden Hour and encourage immediate and continuous skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby to promote bonding and encourage the initiation of breastfeeding
  • Delayed cord clamping to assist with transition of baby, as well as allowing the completion of blood volume to the newborn to reduce jaundice and increase newborn hemoglobin levels
  • Therapeutic herbal bath for mother and newborn to aid in bonding and healing
  • Comprehensive newborn examination
  • Breastfeeding support
  • Two licensed midwives will attend all births and are current with CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation certifications and have immediate access to resuscitation equipment, including oxygen
  • IV fluids and IV antibiotics available, if indicated
  • Access to anti-hemorrhage medications
  • Optional erythromycin and Vitamin K injection available for the newborn
  • VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean)
  • Water birth certified

POSTPARTUM

Welcome to motherhood! As a practice combined, we have birthed 15 children and we know how important this time is as you and your baby get to know one another. We will be available from those first few moments and throughout the postpartum period. Once your midwife, ALWAYS your midwife! We will be available to navigate becoming a mother or adding to your family.

  • Home visit within the first 48 hours
  • 2-3 additional postpartum appointments, in office
  • Breastfeeding counseling and support, as needed
  • 3-4 newborn physical exams and weight checks
  • Non-invasive Critical Congenital Heart Defects testing
  • Metabolic newborn screening tests done at initial postpartum visit and again at the 2 week visit
  • Continued assessments of the physiological and emotional well-being of the new mother
  • Assessment of your emotional wellbeing
  • Optional pap smears available at final postpartum visit
  • Family planning counseling
  • Documentation of birth certificate and social security filed with the state
  • Referral to pediatricians, lactation consultants, postpartum support, pelvic floor specialist, and other professionals as needed
